Guns 2 Gewurztraminer is a Wine and Spirit blog by Ravi Joshi aka Colonel Joe, a renowned beverage expert from India.

Call of Passion

A former Army Officer and Technologist, Ravi answered the call of his heart by switching professions to the world of beverages. Shortly thereafter, he won the coveted Champagne Scholarship awarded by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) which was sponsored by the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC). There has been no looking back for him ever since.

Traversing up the learning curve

But Ravi didn’t just stop at Champagne. He ventured further on a solo voyage to different wine regions of France, working with the winemakers in the fields and wineries, facilitated by his knowledge of the French language.

Over the next years, Ravi travelled to various other wine regions of the world (Italy, Spain, Austria, Japan) on invitations from reputed winemakers and beverage trade bodies of the world.  He also started conducting beverage education and tasting sessions for consumers and trade in India, to include wine, whisky, vodka, rum, sake and others.

Sake “Samurai”

In 2020, Ravi was invited by Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association (JSS) as the only one from India in a group of seven global experts to tour Sake breweries in the country. On his return, Ravi founded Sake Club India (SCI), which is today the top authority on Sake in India. Ravi’s hands-on experience in Sake breweries and his formal qualification as Certified Sake Professional enables this leading position of Sake Club India.

Whither Guns 2 Gewurztraminer?

This blog’s name is symbolic of Ravi’s transition from handling guns as a military man to bottles as a beverage professional. But there’s more to G2G than just symbolism- as can probably be observed from  Ravi’s various writings that have continuously evolved over the years.
