Catering to the generic Indian wine palate, York winery of India has recently launched a new label called “All Rounder”. A Sauvignon-Chenin Blanc white and a Cabernet-Shiraz red wine form part of the new offering.
York, a promising “boutique winery” of India has been producing some inspiring wines with great quality versus price advantage ever since it’s debut in 2005.
The All Rounder label is inspired by Cricket, the most popular sport in the Indian sub-continent. Speaking about the launch, Kailash Gurnani, Chief Winemaker & Director, York Winery Pvt. Ltd. said :
All Rounder has been crafted as a simple, honest, light, fruity, all round wine. Both the red & white are dry wines tailored to suit the novice wine drinker & Indian food. It is a wine I would personally consume when I’m in the mood of something simple.
The label of the wines is eye-catching with a retrospective of cricketing action. “We knew we needed something that looked retro & cool. Something that wasn’t loud or tacky. Something non-traditional, atypical of wine (specifically Indian wine!) and very much in line with the New World wine label design. Believe it or not, matching colours with the Indian cricket team was more of a coincidence. But how could we have it any other way?” said Gurnani.
According to the winemaker, the All Rounder White variant is light bodied and fruit forward with a refreshing acidity and aromatic flavours that continue through to the finish.
The All Rounder Red is easy drinking with intense red fruit character and smooth tannins.
Both the wines are priced at INR 500 (approx $ 7.5) in the State of Maharashtra where they are currently available.
